Whilst living in Asia for 8 years I loved learning the meanings behind and experiencing the different cultural & religious celebrations, and the beautiful, colourful and prolific creativity that is expressed through these festivals, particularly Diwali (or Deepavali).
Diwali is the Hindu celebration of the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, knowledge over ignorance, and hope over despair. It is a joyous festival where the celebration of light is a reminder of the importance of knowledge, self inquiry, self-improvement, knowing and seeking the good and the right path, and being compassionate to others - an inner light guiding us and the belief that good ultimately triumphs over evil. Something I believe that we all as connected human beings, deep down like to believe.
Diwali is celebrated at the end of harvest between mid October and mid November on the darkest new moon and the light that is celebrated is representative of the sun that brings life and abundance to us all.
I liked to reflect on the different celebrations' meanings and how and what they might bring to my life, where self inquiry, improvement and doing the right thing are important as an every developing human being. Where we all benefit from how the sun brings harvest and abundance to our lives and gives us sustenance. Where friendships and connectedness brings light to our lives.
May your inner light always be your guide and may the light of Diwali shine on you...
To Your Success...
